COMMUNITY RELATIONS COORDINATOR: Civil Service Office of Hillsborough

MAJOR FUNCTION Performs professional public relations duties coordinating the development and administration of a broad range of programs to foster and improve education and community relations throughout Hillsborough County.

MAJOR DUTIES Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive.

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

Formulates comprehensive program plans and strategies pertaining to developing and improving community relations.

Coordinates studies to determine program priorities relative to fund utilization and resource allocation.

Prepares recommendations involving special community funding matters.

Conducts pertinent research within the area of human relations planning and performs program analysis and statistical research.

Prepares and delivers verbal, written and visual presentations to advisory councils, citizens's; groups, and government officials.

May serve as Public Relations or Public Information Officer of a major county agency.

May supervise subordinate staff personnel engaged in program development, administration, and evaluation.

Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Considerable knowledge of education principles, methods and practices.

Working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Working knowledge of photographic and audiovisual equipment.

Working knowledge of the functions, services, procedures and regulations of the unit or department to which assigned.

Skill in making presentations to groups.

Ability to collect and organize data and develop presentations.

Ability to work effectively with others.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.

Graduation from an accredited four year degree granting college or university; andThree years of experience planning, implementing, or managing community relations or community education programs.

ORAn Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university; andFour years of experience planning, implementing, or managing community relations or community education programsORGraduation from high school or possessions of a GED certificate; andFive years of experience planning, implementing, or managing community relations or community education programs.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION AT TIME OF APPLICATION If you believe that you qualify for this position based upon education or training you have received, you will be required to provide a copy of your official college transcripts or copy of diploma from the accredited college/university, and/or a copy of a certificate indicating your successful completion of any required training, before your qualifications will be evaluated.
