Aviation in the Navy Reserve Oversee parachute-jumping operations.
Assist in search-and-rescue operations.
Operate at peak efficiency.
Reservists in the Aviation field oversee almost every detail of flight operation, and their job is to ensure that every plane, jet, or helicopter can perform its mission successfully and return home safely not one SH-60 Seahawk helicopter or F/A-18 Hornet fighter/attack jet leaves a flight deck or airstrip without the support of well-trained air and ground crews.
Working in this field, you will train on some of the most modern, innovative, and high-tech aircraft and equipment in the world.
Jobs in this field include: Aerographer's Mate Air Traffic Controller Aircrew Survival Equipmentman Airman Aviation Boatswain's Mate Equipment Aviation Boatswain's Mate Fuels Aviation Boatswain's Mate Handling Aviation Electrician's Mate Aviation Electronics Technician Aviation Machinist's Mate Aviation Maintenance Adminstrationman Aviation Ordnanceman Aviation Structural Mechanic Aviation Structural Mechanic Equipment Aviation Support Equipment Technician Aviation Warfare Systems Operator Avionics Technician As part of this occupational specialty, you could: - Inspect and maintain aircraft electrical systems, navigation systems, internal safety systems, engines, fuel, fuselage, wings, and landing gear as well as a pilot's personal safety gear - Work as aircrewmen aboard aircraft to assist pilots with mission objectives such as antisubmarine warfare, mine countermeasures, search-and-rescue operations, and passenger assistance - Operate and maintain hydraulic and steam catapults to launch aircraft - Operate and maintain landing gear systems, brakes, and related pneumatic systems - Electronically detect and track ships, submarines, aircraft, and missiles - Perform handling duties related to the launch and recovery of Naval aircraft - Perform crash rescue, firefighting, and crash removal in connection with launching and recovery of aircraft - Supervise firefighting crews and fire rescue teams Advanced Training & Certification The training you will receive is a mix of classroom study and hands-on training that can be counted as semester hours toward a bachelor's degree or an associate's degree.
You may also have the opportunity to earn certification from the Department of Labor allowing you to work as a sheet metal worker, aircraft mechanic, aviation support equipment repairer, electronics mechanic, or computer peripheral-equipment operator.
The advanced technical and operational training you gain can also greatly accelerate your career development.
The skills you learn are highly sought after by civilian employers like public and private airports, airline industries, aircraft manufacturers, and law enforcement agencies.
