Senior System And Board Design Engineer
Senior System and Board Design Engineer Sunnyvale, California Description Successful candidate is part of a two-member team that will lead and develop advanced wireless/wired networking systems using Ubicom's IP5000 and IP3000 network processors.
System designs will include high-performance, low-cost wireless routers including VoIP and print server functionality, media streaming solutions, VoIP phones, print servers, access points and bridges, and more.
Candidate will interface closely with marketing, software engineering, and VLSI engineering.
Candidate will be a hands-on developer of Ubicom's systems and boards.
Ubicom is a fast-paced company.
The successful candidate must possess high-productivity CAD and board design skills to meet our needs.
Responsibilities Work with marketing and engineering teams to define software development boards, product evaluation boards, and VLSI bringup boards.
Work closely with the VLSI and software engineering team to ensure that Board + VLSI + SW products are engineered from a system perspective.
Complete design of board schematics and layout.
Manage distributors, reps, vendors, and service bureaus to complete board parts procurement, fab, and assembly.
Bringup, debug, and replicate new board designs.
Define, develop, and document improved system design methodology to achieve world-class productivity.
Complete all deliverables and documentation required to release new board designs to production.
Consult with customers on system/board product designs to ensure that best design practices are followed.
Board designs are expected to work the first time.
Design boards for functional correctness, excellent signal integrity, low-cost manufacturing, FCC/CE EMI compatibility, and ESD tolerance.
Requirements Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering 5+ years hands-on experience in system and board development Successful history designing board-level schematics and routing high-speed boards with excellent signal integrity Proven ability to rapidly turn a product concept into a high-quality, working board (ie in 1-2 months) Direct experience managing distributors, reps, vendors and service bureaus to acquire parts and to fab and assemble boards.
Proven success bringing up and debugging new boards Experience designing boards that meet EMI requirements and that can tolerate ESD discharge Excellent system-level digital and analog design skills Excellent board design CAD skills.
Experience writing scripts (Perl or Visual Basic) to automate the board design process C and assembly programming skills Excellent teamwork, communication, and documentation skills Skilled in analog and power-supply circuit design Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, especially ethernet and 802.
11 networks Skilled in the usage and limitations of laboratory test equipment Desired Experience Masters degree in electrical engineering 8+ years of system/board design experience 3+ years experience in system design of wired and wireless networking products Experience using OrCad and PADS PowerPCB board design tools Technical team leadership experience Proven success designing low-cost, 4-layer PC boards
