Special Education Teacher: Cumberland Hospital
Cumberland Hospital, a specialty rehab facility serving children and adolescents with co-occurring medical and behavioral health needs, has an opening for a Special Education Teacher for our high school program.
We provide specialized care for young people whose disabilities, injuries or lifelong illnesses are compounded by emotional and/or behavioral problems.
Our campus is located on 98 acres of riverfront land between Richmond and Williamsburg, VA in New Kent County.
Education Bachelors degree in Special Education or Master's Degree in Special Education with a specialty area in either Mental Retardation, Emotional Disturbances or Learning Disabilities.
Qualifications Knowledge of all core subjects for the high school level (grades 8th through 12th).
Ability to write reports identifying student's abilities, strengths, weaknesses and recommendations.
Ability to intervene and de-escalate students when upset.
Ability to communicate with team of professionals.
Ability to structure time and complete work in a timely manner.
Experience At least three years experience preferred with either elementary or secondary students.
Licensure/Certification Current Virginia State Teaching License with endorsements in Specific Learning Disabilities, Seriously Emotionally Disturbed, or Mentally Retarded.
Preferred license as a Collegiate Professional; however, a Conditional or Provisional License with a plan to complete course work for the Collegiate Professional is acceptable.
