Professor - Div Dir - Type 1
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop CCDD's values, vision, mission, goals and strategies consistent with local, state, and national needs and initiatives with the CCDD Board of Trustees, faculty and staff.
2. Assure that CCDD's philosophy and mission statements are realistic, pertinent, and practiced throughout CCDD.
3. Develop an effective management team.
4. Recruit and direct an interdisciplinary staff of medical and health related professionals in conjunction with the UC Department Chairman and with the approval of UC, CCDD Board of Trustees, and Cincinnati Children's.
5. Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates top quality staff.
6. Develop employees to their maximum potential, including use of effective personal growth/performance assessment systems.
7. Conduct meetings of Department and Program Directors of CCDD on a regular basis.
8. With the Chairman of the CCDD Board of Trustees, assure that the make-up of the CCDD Board, committee structure, and Director-Board communication flow is appropriate and effective.
9. With representatives of relevant community and state agencies, study community needs and review on a regular basis, evaluate and plan collaboratively existing and future CCDD programs.
10. Coordinate CCDD with other university and Cincinnati Children's programs.
11. Work with the CCDD Administrator and the CCDD Board of Trustees to determine personnel needs, space requirements, budgets, and means of financing CCDD programs.
12. Prepare and submit grant applications with appropriate staff and faculty, and motivate and train others in techniques of successful grantsmanship.
13. Represent CCDD at professional and other meetings.
14. Prepare activity and other reports as indicated.
15.In conjunction with the CCDD Training Director, Director of CCDD Outreach Department, and Directors of CCDD Departments, is responsible for planning, developing, administering, and evaluating the CCDD interdisciplinary professional education programs.
16. Participate in the interdisciplinary training of core discipline trainees and in the Interdisciplinary Leadership Core Curriculum.
17. Demonstrates to trainees in all disciplines the role and function of the various CCDD departments and programs.
18. Supervise appropriate trainees within the various programs of CCDD.
19. Participate as a faculty member of the UC Department of Pediatrics, including attendance at regularly scheduled faculty meetings.
20. Participate in continuing education programs for professionals, including hospital teaching rounds and lectures.
21. Participate in appropriate courses at UC and other regional universities/colleges.
22. Present at professional meetings.
23. Participate in community education activities.
24.In conjunction with Director of CCDD Departments and Programs, and in conjunction with appropriate agencies and programs, be responsible for the planning, development, organization, administration, coordination, and evaluation of the programs for individuals with developmental disorders and other neurodevelopment and related disabilities.
25. Determine the needs and develop the necessary programs or affiliations to offer family centered, community bases, coordinated, comprehensive and culturally competent care.
26. Develop mechanisms for the smooth transition of individuals to adult programs.
27. Participate in the interdisciplinary evaluation of individuals and serve as a consultant within CCDD, Cincinnati Children's, and the community.
28. Plan, develop, design, and conduct research/demonstration projects, both individually and in collaboration with CCDD staff or faculty and/or university faculty.
29. Promote research/demonstration activities and publications of CCDD staff and trainees.
30. Prepare and submit grant applications in conjunction with appropriate faculty and staff.
31. Prepare and submit publications bases on research/demonstration activities.
32. Understands, adheres to and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit.
33. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of pediatrics, child development, mental retardation, neurodevelopment and related disabilities, community organization, and relevant federal and state laws and regulations; ability to plan, organize, administer, implement, and evaluate the interdisciplinary programs (education, service, research/demonstration, etc.) within CCDD.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a wide variety of people.
Demonstrated ability to teach at a university level, prepare grants, conduct research, and publish in refereed journals.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE: .
MD degree from an accredited school of medicine.
2-3 years post-pediatric residency in developmental pediatrics.
Subspecialty training in the area of child neurology or genetics preferred.
Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics; State of Ohio Medical Board licensure.
Minimum 7 years experience in pediatrics, including at least 3 years working with individual with developmental disorders and 2 years in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
Experience should include working in an interdisciplinary setting, medical clinic facilities involving a culturally diverse population, university teaching, research, grantsmanship, and publications.
Public health experience/education desirable.
8-10 years academic experience in quantitative genetics.
