Education Specialist - Emergency Department (1.0)
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To assess, design, implement and evaluate educational needs and programs, which develop and improve practice specifically within the Division of Patient Services and generally throughout Cincinnati Children's.
To provide leadership and staff development through education, consultation, and scholarly endeavors.
To facilitate the work of the Nursing councils and interdisciplinary committees.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assess and analyze learning needs.
2. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate education programs based upon assessment of learning needs: a.
orientation of newly-hired and newly-promoted personnel b.
in-service education c.
continuing education programs offered to Cincinnati Children's or the communit
3. Apply principles of adult learning in the development of education programs.
4.Use change theory in the development and implementation of new programs.
5. Provide consultation and act as a resource person to: a.
Patient Services personnel b.
Other Cincinnati Children's departments and disciplines c.
Faculty and students d.
Communit
6. Participate in division, hospital and Medical Staff committees/councils.
7. Assist in the development, revision and communication of division and hospital-wide policies and procedures.
Promote awareness, interpretation and implementation of these policies.
8. Collaborate with other departments in hospital wide education programs.
9. Co-sponsor educational programs with other organizations.
10. Coordinate production services for the department of Patient Services.
11. Assist staff in identifying and meeting ongoing learning needs and pursuing opportunities for professional development.
12. Coordinate the planning, designing, implementation and evaluation of patient/parent educational materials and programs.
13. Promote critical inquiry and research utilization by self and others.
14. Coordinate affiliations with undergraduate and graduate nursing schools.
15. Maintain ONA providership or related professional affiliation and act as a liaison to other professions.
16. Implement principles of effective resource management.
17. Actively participate as a front-line example of extra-ordinary customer service and satisfaction.
Participate in any and all customer service initiatives that are appropriate.
18. Understands, adheres to and models Core Standards as defined organizationally and specifically within the department/unit.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Above average verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to apply adult learning principles; knowledge of related theories and instructional media.
Knowledge of pediatric nursing, growth and development and educational principles.
Demonstrated support of continuous performance improvement and learning principles.
Capable of consistently exercising diplomacy, patience and tact.
Computer skills required.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Education or related field of study required.
Experience in the application of adult learning principles required.
Five years of experience in a clinical profession, including two years with a pediatric focus required.
