An Assistant Director job description is to assist the Center Director in all aspects of the position.
CENTER DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION The Center Director (CD) is the person who is responsible for the overall operation of the child care center.
Her responsibilities are numerous and at times may include the responsibilities of all the center jobs (cook, janitor, teacher, aide, van driver, etc.). The CD is considered the leader in the center as well as the decision-maker.
She answers directly to the Corporate Office.
I.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS a.
Is at least 21 years of age b.
Meets the minimum requirements of the State Licensing Law for Director Qualifications c.
Has an approved/clean driving record.
d.
Maintains a CPR certification as well as a First Aid for Infant/toddlers and adults e.
Has knowledge of the current State Minimum Licensing Requirements for child Care Centers.
f.
Able to conduct monthly In-service/education meetings for center staff II. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS a.
Able to frequently lift or move an average weight as in lifting, carrying, and holding children (10-60 pounds) b.
Occasionally lift heavy weights (over 60 pounds) c.
Able to walk the building several times a day to check ratios, physical structure, and monitor teachers d.
Able to interact with children, teachers, and parents on the playground, in the office, or in the classroom e.
Able to mentally react immediately to unexpected circumstances f.
Able to react (mentally or physically) quickly to circumstances g.
Able to stoop and bend to interact on a childs level h.
Able to seek assistance to perform physical demands on the job if necessary such as lifting a heavy object or moving heavy objects III. PHILOSOPHY REQUIREMENTS a.
Supports the teachers and insures that the teachers are implementing the educational program in both classroom activities and routine conversations.
Provides the teachers with all items necessary to carry out the educational program.
b.
Is responsible for insuring that weekly lesson plans are reviewed.
Lesson plans shall meet the following: i.
Prepared by the lead teacher ii. Activities are developmentally appropriate iii. Teacher-made materials and hands-on activities.
c.
Ensures the teachers provides a positive, loving and nurturing environment for the child d.
Supports appropriate discipline techniques used in the classroom.
e.
Implements a training program to inform teachers of their requirements as a mandated reporter of suspected child maltreatment and insures that staff members understand the reporting procedures and documentation requirements.
IV. BUILDING REQUIREMENTS a.
Responsible for the maintenance of the center.
This includes but is not limited to the building, grounds, play equipment, toys, vans, playground, and parking lot. Repairs items as needed.
At no time shall there be a hazard allowed to be overlooked or not repaired.
If an item needs repair and is costly they need to contact the Area Manager and get 3 estimates of repair cost to present to the area Manager.
b.
Responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of the center.
The office area should represent a business atmosphere and shall be organized and stocked with all necessary items to smoothly run a child care business.
Order all necessary paperwork items and file them appropriately.
c.
Responsible for the supervision of all staff and for the follow-up on all issues relating to cleaning, health, and safety.
d.
Develops a management team that consists of a School Age Program Manager (SAPM) (for larger centers only), an assistant director (AD), a staff trainer and a health and safety coordinator.
She will supervise and assign duties to those persons as necessary for the operation of the center.
V.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES Responsible for all aspects of the business of the center.
Able to assign responsibilities to the AD as necessary to insure all paperwork and bookwork is completed.
The Center Books are to be completed and closed by CLOSE OF BUSINESS on Friday Afternoon.
The center weekly figure sheet will be e-mailed to the corporate office no later than 6:15 pm on Friday afternoon.
The center books shall be sent by FTP/emailed to the Corporate office no later than 1:00 pm on Saturday afternoon unless pre-approved by the Corporate office.
Responsible for filling the center.
Marketing plans must be in effect weekly.
The marketing plans must be submitted to the Area manager 1 week in advance EVERY week.
The center must maintain cleanliness and appeal both in the center and at curbside.
Responsible for the securing the tuition money for the center.
She is responsible for collection of all tuition money due the center from both paying families and those families on child care assistance.
Tuition money must be deposited in the bank daily.
Proper billing to the state must be done in a timely manner.
The CD will be held accountable for money that is stolen from the center if not properly secured or tuition not collected due to inattention of CD. Responsible for the Petty Cash for the center.
Common sense must be used in items purchased for the center.
All receipts must be accounted for with details of items purchased.
Petty Cash is to be reconciled weekly, and receipts with details sent in to corporate office for payment.
All receipts and money must be kept secured.
Larger items needed for the center must be pre-approved by supervisor.
Responsible for requesting payments on all bills charged to the center.
All food, pest control, lawn care, milk, repairs or maintenance bills must be submitted weekly to the corporate office.
CDs will not open charge accounts for the center EVER.
If a charge account is needed for a center it must be requested through the corporate office.
CDs NEVER sign a contract.
All contracts are forwarded to the corporate office for approval.
Maintains spending within the center budget.
Submit a budget worksheet weekly with the financials.
Payroll.
Each center is required to maintain a maximum of 45% in payroll costs.
The CD must be cognizant of all employees working times and schedules.
The CD is a team player.
Supports and motivates all (parents, children, regulators and staff).
Maintains a working knowledge of State requirements.
The center should never be over the child to teacher ratio.
Completes all duties as assigned or as needed to insure the safe operation of the center.
Responsible for all aspects of EOE hiring practices.
Following the guidelines for rates of pay and ensures that each employee qualifies to take on the responsibilities required for each position.
Responsible for all evaluations, raises, investigations and terminations.
