Academic Counselor: Skidmore College
Skidmore College's Opportunity Program seeks a regular, part-time academic counselor.
The Academic Counselor, in consultation with Opportunity Program staff and the faculty, help shape students' academic programs and progress toward the degree.
The primary responsibility will include the ability to offer academic support services in a wide range of academic disciplines, with specific expertise in offering support to students pursuing coursework in the social sciences (anthropology, economics, sociology, government, history, etc.). The successful candidate will meet with students, one-on-one, in support of the students' high academic achievement.
Masters Degree required.
Strong background in an academic discipline; teaching, tutoring, or academic counseling experience preferred.
Experience working with English Language Learners and students from under-represented backgrounds.
Background in statistics is necessary to support students in Economics, Psychology, and Sociology.
Demonstrated ability to interact with persons from educationally and economically disadvantaged and other diverse backgrounds, and knowledge of issues related to access and equity in higher education.
