Network vs programming?

Category: Technology

I'm a recent Computer science graduate and i concentrated in networking, but I've developed a great interest in programming, even though I didn't in college, and I only had a handful of classes and wasn't very good at it. Which should i puruse?

Well which one do you want to pursue? Neither of them are 100% dedicated. I know network guys who do a fair bit of programming through batch scripts, cron jobs, Perl scripts, etc. Also, there are developers who know a good deal about networks.

Job security will be about the same.

I would take more courses in programming - maybe night courses until you make the switch. You should know which you want to do after more development experience.

Programming - If you are interested enough then you are probably willing to learn more about programming and improving your skills. If you find that programming makes you happy then go for it.
