I was called in for work and asked to call back what do I do?

You see today is my day off and I was called in to see if I could go into work tonight. But I said I wasn't sure I could. Then they asked me if I could please call back. I don't want to go into work today. I work overnight Target and it is a really physical demanding job and I'm always tired and I just have three days off and this is my last one. Then tomorrow I;m going into work and won't get a day off for another week. I work full time by the way. I just can't take it anymore and I work in the cold food and produce section do I'm always getting sick or just feeling like complete crap. What should I do? Should I call in and say I can't make it? or should I just not call at all and stay home? What if they call back should I answer the phone? Please someone help me. Thank You so much for the people that take the time to read this.

Either you can, you can't, or you'll know by [whenever]. Call them and tell them which it is.

Grow a pair, dude.

Well, your first mistake was saying that you didn't know. If you say you can't make it they will be slightly suspicious of why you couldn't make it and why you didn't know why you couldn't make it at the time.

So, it would probably be best that you went to work...

In this economy, it seems like the best choice would be to go in tonight. You should call back - you want to be seen as dependable. Tell them you had plans for tonight but you can rearrange them and come in tonight if you can get a day off during the next week. Then let them decide - do they need you more tonight or every night during the next week.

Regarding plans - you don't need to go into detail but your plans are valid - even if they were only to veg out in front of the TV.

I used to work for Target. They will always try to get you to come in.

Your two options are to say, "No, I'm sorry, I can't come in today," or to not even answer the phone when they call. I usually just ignored their phone calls when I worked there, because that's the only reason they'll ever call you on your day off. Don't ever say, "I don't know."

You won't get fired for not going in. That's why they are calling and *asking*.

For your current situation, just call back and say that you can't go in. You don't owe them an explanation as to why. Do it as soon as possible so they know. Honestly, they are probably assuming that you won't go in and that you just said "I don't know" to avoid saying "no."

If they call back, answer the phone and say the same thing.
