Hi, I am 48 years old, working in a manufacturing industry in bangalore, as a manager, having exposures to ERP (MFG-PRO), reconciliation and all other related activities. I hold a B.Sc degree. I have a family and would like remain in Bangalore. Can any one help me whether I how I fare in IT / ITES / BPO organisations. My present salary is Rs.4.00 lacs per annum Please provide your frank opinion

Career changes at your age can be a risky affair, for the sole reason that you have spent half your working life in one field, and naturally you hold the skills for the same. Now to make a shift is not a completely wrong idea in my opinion - many people do it - I have done so myself- but yes, you will need to assess your situation very carefully before making the move.

You might want to look into the operations field in the BPO/ITES industries where you can transfer some skills from your current industry which is manufacturing to these. Basic idea is that you can find a footing in the new field with your prior experience. I mean, you definitely would not wan t to enter as a fresher, right?

Also, take a deep look at how your financial situation is going to vary with career change. There might be initial tough phase and you might not get the same competitive salary as you do now.
