How long do doctors work on average per week? What kind of time off, weekend/days off do they get?

I suppose it depends on where you live. I know the MDs & DOs I work with get here around 8 and are often still here at 6 or 7 pm. They take call in rotation, so they work every 4th weekend (and can get called in at night as well). Most of them rarely get to take all the vacation time they accumulate. |

It depends on whether you are going to be a doctor in a hospital or your own private practice/partnership. In any event, doctors work long hours and even in private practice, some hospitals require that they be on call if they want privileges. Resident interns have no time off to start with (think 60 to 70 hours of work per week as starters and on call). |
