How does one get into entry level admin. assisting/clerical/data entry work with no experience?

I have found MANY jobs that pay well for an 18 year old kid fresh out of high school but unfortunately i have no experience.
I'm wondering what i can do to attain more knowledge on this sort of position to possibly appear more knowledgeable in an interview setting to improve my chances of getting hired. Is there possible communal classes/books that i could be reading that could shed some light on this topic ?
Ex: most employers want someone that has knowledge of Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Software...
how would i go about simply broadening my horizons to achieve a position in this?
Please only serious replies.
Also-- i wanted to mention i'm not looking to make a lifelong career out of this so please don't harp on me-- i'm simply trying to get a job doing something other than flipping burgers that's going to pay at least 10 bucks an hour for a kid just trying to get by while he figures out college and life in general.

I presume you are not in the UK? I have a list of qualification in Business admin and 30 odd years of work experience and I cannot get a job, as there is so many people unemployed they can choose who they want with the highest qualification and degrees to do basic admin jobs. I went for an interview recently for a basic call centre and the other girls there had degrees in medical science and microbiology and teaching and no work experience in call centres but they were the ones that got the job. |
