Employers if an applicant put on their CV they had a Certificate of Higher Education...?

Would you know what it was? A Certificate of Higher Education is a certificate gained for passing the first year of university in the UK.

Well my son has been to 3 different Unis in the UK and none give a certifcate for completing one year. If you go for a 3 year degree you get your grade at the end of the 3 years.

I know what it is because I work in recruitment, but the real question is it a qualification (???) certificate of value to employers?

It says: I turned up an uni for 9months, and passed (???) my exams. I put a question mark in there as you don't need to pass all your exams to get one - just the year.

Secondly, why would you claim it as a qualification? It either says:

- Went to uni, exited after passing first year

- At uni, passed first year, I now need a "would you like fries with that" job to pay my debts/fund summer holiday (at higher rate because I got my certificate)

I can not see the value in it for any employer, so hence question its usefulness. I have also never seen an employer write out a job specification or job advert asking for this qualification. Thirdly, if you did turn up at a job interview, as a trained interviewer I would be jumping on your claim instantly: why leave uni if you passed, and why will you stick at this job when you couldn't stick at uni?

Personally, I would leave it off of your CV: no real value; unrecognised (as you accept by posing the question in the way in which you have); creates too many akward questions.
