Do software engineers only have a career of 20 yrs ?

I want to choose b/w computer science or civil engineering in India............ although people make tons of money by comp in India and civil people keep on struggling but i want to work outside India................i mean both the fields get high pay out but....do u feel that choosing a career in comp means only a 20 yrs one.................................if especially i want to work for USA , AUSTRALIA ..................

In a word - NO..

Agreed, s/w engineers initially make more money and have more opportunities outside India (esp US and AUS).. but when you start going up the ladder, the job is tougher than most other fields.. A good s/w professional has to be ready to spend most of his time on the job, handle a lot of stress, have good softskills, presentablility, managerial skills and much more as he would be interacting with people from multiple cultures as he goes forth.

As with any other field, he has to struggle hard as career growth doesnt comeby as easily as other fields which place emphasis on things like seniority.. here performance is what counts. Once you have learnt what it takes to keep your career, you will definitely succeed.
