Would you use death or sickness to your advantage academically or professionally?

Category: Other

:):)

I'm on a academic team charged with a 9,000 word paper. Its a 6 week assignment and for the past 4 weeks two team members are always turning in drafts on Monday rather than Saturday when they are due for editing. Every time Saturday comes there is a death in the family, someones sick, the internet is down etc.

So I finally said can you guys turn in what you have so far even if it isnt finished so we can work off of that so the team can move forward? Well they said I'm not being sympathetic and I'm rude, sure hope I dont have to bury a family member with worrying about school and they'll get their parts in Monday which is the day the paper is due.

Now truth is I have buried both of my grandfathers and my mom whom is epileptic is gone from 3 or 4 seizures a year to weekly seizures. She is always sick and I'm always with her. However, I stay up til 4 or 5 sometimes doing school work and then getting back up at 8 for work.

I never told them any of that stuff or turned in a late assignment or assignment lacking true academic quality. I did express my sympathies with them and told them how I got it done.

Now they are saying its because I am cruela devile and don't have a heart. Was I wrong? The professor does not get into team debates whatsoever.

That sounds fair....especially since you are having problems of your own and not complaining.....it also sounds to me that some of your team members may be fibbing....you can't have someone die on you every week.....that sounds fishy.....plus life goes on....you cant just stop taking care of business because you are mourning.
