Would babysitting a younger sibling count as previous work experience on a resume?

Category: Other

I don't have any other work experiences and I got paid for this. I have some volunteer experience, but babysitting is the closest to work experience I have.

Don't put that in there unless you are applying for a babysitting job. I would probably put the volunteer experience in there though.

Don't worry, if you are 16 or so people don't expect you to have experience. Just dress nice and be respectful and that will help.

If you are 20+ and you have never worked, you are gonna be in trouble.

Here's your answer yes it does count that's a job plus you got paid for it. Trust me it was the same situation with me, and I got the job. Hope that helps good luck!!!

I think that depends on what type of job that you are applying. If it is for childcare position or education then I would use it. The thing you should remember is that it is a resume should detail what you learned from having the position and how you can use those skills in future jobs.

Example: Instead of writing:

Worked as babysitter for younger siblings for three years.

Use "key-words" like this instead: Self motivator, Individual Contributor, Ability to work calmly in high stress jobs, Dependable, and Trustworthy to describe the skills that you acquired while working as a babysitter.

Include the volunteer experience and the babysitting experience. It doesn't matter if you're going into child care, this is experience that employers will notice. I like the previous answer about using key words. Try to spin the responsibilities so they fit what the employer is looking for. Be truthful, but "sell" it.
