Working and breaks what should they get?

Ok so a friend is a home carer (they go round houses caring for ppl) they start at 6.45am and finish at 11pm they manage to get about 2 hrs break through the day where they can come home and get something to eat they have been told that as they can get food and drink at any of the houses they dont need to come home is this correct or should they get more breaks

By British law every employee must have a 15 minute uninterrupted break for every six hours work, so your friends employer is wrong and just because they have the opportunity of getting food and drink in other peoples houses on visits does not constitute a proper Break. |

I would say that this would not be lawful - the laws now govern that if you are working over a forty hour week then you have to have agreed to this as part of your contract, however a 15 hour day with only a two hour during that time must be breaking many laws. Would suggest that she gets legal advise going to the Citizens Advice Centre will be able to confirn her rights without her employer knowing. The fact she is scared to find out in case she loses her job is playing into her bosses hands. |
