I missed my phone interview call on the noisy skytrain and I knew I just lost another job opportunity. In most cases if the candidate failed to answer the interview call, s/he loses the chance and have to look for jobs elsewhere. I'm doomed. It wasn't my fault. I just couldn't hear my phone ringing on the train. I tried to call back but the automatic answering machine didn't make things easier, and I was unable to reach whoever called me. What should I do in order to get in touch with the hiring manager?

Well to be honest, you are probably another name that isn't worth remembering for the hiring managers. We don't have time to forgive a canddiate. If you can't manage your schedule to be in a place to comfortably conduct the interview, that's a warning sign. It's called preparation. Obviously you have issues with time management and preparation. If you want a job bad enough, you do what you need to do. Your interviews are the most important piece of the job search. Why waste the hiring managers time and energy to just blow them off by not managing your time?

In the future, if you make an appointment, keep it. Be in the quietest place you can be to conduct the interview. This means, indoors, no TV's, kids, dogs etc in the background. If you're this desperate for a job, you'll find this place to make it happen.
