Depends on where you live, in the US there are 3 states that have laws concerning overtime based on the number of hours in a day, as well as for the week......

(California, Nevada, and Alaska)

there are federal laws, FLSA, that address overtime but NOT all employers are covered by FLSA.

for coverage see:

http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/w¦

for employers who are NOT covered by FLSA in some states the law mandates overtime after 44 hours in a week and in at least one state (Vermont) there is NO overtime required if the business is not covered by FLSA and is in one of the numerous industries that are exempted....

there is NO difference in the laws for full-time and/or part-time, the protections provided are for all non-exempt employees, and in fact, there is NO definition of full-time or part-time in labor law......

full-time and part-time are terms used by employers generally for determining who they will offer benefits to.

see:

http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/workhours/i¦

SO, it is not possible to give you a definitive answer BUT in general you would get overtime ONLY if you worked more then 40 hours in a work-week, regardless of what you are hired for or scheduled to work.

see the following for an explanation of FLSA, overtime, FT/PT status, and an example of state overtime laws (Vermont)

http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/h¦

and

and

and for what it is worth 'I Love Fat Chicks' is an IDIOT..................

They kept me overtime a lot of times in my part-time job. So I don't see why they wouldn't.

For a employee on part time status is 6 hours or less. Anything over 6 hours for a part timer is considered over time by law in all 50 states and they must pay you time and a half

If they don't pay you your hourly wage plus half and you notified them and they refuse to pay you overtime, sue their bit*h a$$es. I'm one of those a$$hole employees that hopes and wishes that the my employer will fu*k with my money because I'm looking for a reason. My life won't be complete until I sue the sh*t out of a corporation

Ignore most of these people on here they don't know what their talking about. Their all referring to the laws of a full time employee. They completely ignored the fact that your a part time employee and there are different laws and hour minimums.

Generaly part time jobs are 30 hrs or less a week.

to get over time u need to put in more than 40 hrs a week

most part time jobs wont even recognize u working past the time u were scheduled for.

all in all no you probably wont get overtime unless they are hurting for help

The FLSA requires that most employees in the United States be paid at least the federal minimum wage for all hours worked and overtime pay at time and one-half the regular rate of pay for all hours worked over 40 hours in a workweek. In your specific case I doubt you'd qualify for overtime pay.
