Will I qualify for Unemployment?

I live in the state of Florida, I am moving to the another area in the same state for college. My company has no stores in the area in which I am moving to, therefore, I have to quit. Will I qualify for unemployment? Someone told me that I might. Thank you.

There are two problems with your situation.

1) You quit. In order to obtain UI benefits, you need to have been terminated through no fault of your own. Quitting disqualifies you from benefits.

"If an individual voluntarily quits, a disqualification must be issued unless you can prove good cause for leaving. The law provides that good cause may only consist of a cause attributable to the employing unit, illness or disability of the claimant, recall by the claimants permanent employing unit within six calendar months of a temporary termination or the military transfer of a spouse."

2) In order to claim UI benefits, you need to be willing and able to take any full-time job offered to you. If you are attending school during "normal working hours" you will not be able to take a full-time job. The basic question they will ask is, "Are you willing to quit college and forfeit any tuition monies already paid?" If you are taking night courses or on-line courses which do not require specific hours, then you could get around that requirement.

"The claimant must also be able to work, available for work and actively seeking employment to be eligible for benefits. Agency regulations provide that to be considered available for work a claimant must actively seek work in a manner customary to the occupation in which work is being sought. The claimant must be without undue restrictions that lessen the chance of becoming re-employed at the earliest possible time. "

However, because you quit, you are not eligible to begin with.
