Why is my boss so mean to me now?

I started working for her over two years ago and we always had a good relationship because i was in her words "the best employee she ever had". Nothing has changed, i still do my work and do my best at work, but all of a sudden she hates me. I get criticized for everything I do now and she will stand at my desk for 5-10 mins at a time looking at what I'm doing and will always tell me that I'm not getting paid just to wait out the work day. Then two days ago I just asked her for a day off a week from now for my uncle's funeral and she okay but if I take time off again I'll be fired. What are reasons that would make her do this to me?

It is probably because your boss knows jobs are scarce and that you are stuck there. Most of them are usually shortsighted, because what is going to happen when the economy picks up. I would keep looking for a job. I am in the same boat with my boss.

Sounds as though she has issues maybe with her bosses - it is never a good idea to be in a too close relationship because the minute your boss has a problem and starts clamping down on employees, the employee feels picked on.

As long as you have not received any warnings about anything previously, you cannot be fired (unless for gross misconduct) and they have to follow the disciplinary procedure.
