Why do the people that work less seem to always fare better in the end?
Hello. From observation it just feels that the people that do less work always get promoted and get respected more. Why is that?
Like at my job, I've seen people dedicated to their job and nobody gives anything for them. However I see those that don't do anything, they just socialize with everyone and when time comes to cut people, they never are on the list no matter how inefficient they are.
In fact they get promoted easily to even do less work.
Why can't people see the reality of this people, why do they buy into them? It truely feels as if people don't notice or don't want to notice how inefficient they are.
Even in job interviews, most of the times the guy that gets the job is not the most qualified or the most efficient, but the one that looks cute, better dressed and can connect with the interviewer in conversation. In the end this has proven time and time again that those people are just deceivers, 1st impressers, but why do people keep believing in them?
Thanks

A positive social connection with your coworkers and bosses is always a good idea. Ultimately, life breaks down to who we know, not what we've done. Part of earning respect from people around you is by doing your job at least well enough to not mess with other people. But the other part of earning respect is by showing that you care about other people, and socializing with them is the best way to show you care about other human beings. As long as you're generally doing everything that is expected of you, it's a good idea to plan on investing a little extra time in making yourself just as well-known and well-liked. You don't have to plan on making your coworkers into your best friends, but closing yourself off too much isn't good for your working relationships and will ultimately reflect poorly. You don't want "doesn't work well with others" on your life-long report card, after all. |
