Why can't I get a job?
I have a A.A.S. in banking and financial services, 4 years experience with money management and great customer service skills. But it seems like having all this is a bad thing, because instead of hiring me banks are hiring kids just out of high school. Why is this?

My guess is that it's the idiots working in human resources. They seem to think they are doing a good job when they hire someone at near minimum wage who can't find their desk rather than someone who's capable. Speaking as a manager I can't tell you how many times I gave someone a thumbs down only to have human resources offer them a job because they cost less than the person I wanted. Then I had to explain to my bosses why the work wasn't getting done. |

I think the banks want fresh, out-of-high-school students to come. If you're in New York City, go to the financial district, and who knows: maybe you'll get a job there. If you are in another city that has its financial district, you could work there as well. Yahoo! Hotjobs, careerbuilder.com, and monster.com are good tools to find jobs. The other day, I went on Yahoo! Hotjobs, and searched for a job in New York City under Financial Services. There is an opening for Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Go apply, only if you are near NYC. Good luck on finding a job, and if you do get one in finance, please don't game the system or ruin the economy like Big Business did in these past few years. Once again, good luck! |
