Who has moved away for a new career and how did you handle it?

I have been with my current employer for the past eight years in a field that I love. However, I have kind of hit the point where I realize I don't have room to move up, basically, locked into the same position other than seniority. We also have a problem with managers not really recognizing the job we do and a lot of negativity in the workplace.

I found out I may be hired for a company that is out of state which would require me to move. I am very excited about the possibilities this company has to offer me and the town seems like it has a good fit for me. It is a position I can see myself in long term. Ever since I have returned from the interview, I have had a good feeling about this prospect and really was impressed with the company and the way the employees interact with each other. My friends and family have also noticed this increase in positive energy I have displayed and all are saying this would be a good move for me.

Tonight when I pulled in the driveway from work, it kind of hit me that if I go through with this that I will be giving up seniority, giving up a home that I have put work into the last five years making my own, giving up friends who I get a long with and my little backyard oasis.

I was just curious to hear from others who had to move for a similar reason and if these feelings are normal? How did you handle them and any help in what can make the decision easier to make? Thanks.

You just have to weigh all the pros and cons and decide for your self. It is not an easy decision.
