I am currently 15 years old. I want to apply for a job. I know where I would like to work, but just don't know when to apply. I will be turning 16 in 15 days, Should I wait or apply now?

You are legally able to start working at 14; most places just don't hire anybody under 16... So apply now. If it's a job that only hires 16+, put on the application that you can start on the day of/after your birthday. I had been searching for work since March and only had my first interview a few days ago. It's a tough market out there with the crappy economy.

It helps to land a job if you go to the business in person and ask for an application. A lot of places don't have paper applications anymore but if the store manager sees you putting in effort like that, they're more likely to hire you. After you turn in the application (the next day) call three-four days after and ask to speak with the store manager. If they aren't there, leave a message with your name and number and tell them you're calling about a job opportunity. When the manager calls you back/picks up the phone, introduce yourself and tell him/her that you submitted an application on (insert date) and you were wondering when you can schedule an interview.

This method has gotten me every single job I ever wanted from the time I was 15. Managers LOVE employees who take initiative, are obviously interested and aren't shy.

Good luck finding a job out there! I hope there's more opportunity where you are. :]

OH! And dress nicely. Not super dressy, but a nice pair of jeans and a button down shirt with solid black or dress shoes. Appearance is a lot in the work place.

And check out this site: www.snagajob.com

There are literally thousands of job postings on that site. You just put in your zip code. There's even an option you can select for teen jobs only. My friend directed me to this site and it got me my job within two weeks after I started looking there. You know... just in case the job you want doesn't work out.
