You have been in the same dead end boring job for 22 years, the pay is very comfortable and its easy and familiar and close to home. You dont like the job, you dont like the majority of the people you work with and the managment is an absolute shambles. You are now faced with 2 choices, you can get promoted and get a £5,000 a year payrise, or you can opt for redundancy and leave with a payout of around £50,000.

That's like $75,000 - $80,000 to stop doing something you don't want to do anyway. I be out the door before I could say p1$$ off. |

Depends. How transferrable are your skills should you need to find another job eventually, and how long will the payout really last if you choose to take it over the other job? Perhaps the promotion will provide you with different colleagues and a more challenging position, plus you can put the extra money until such time as you really need it. In any case, if you've held on for 22 years, surely you can do so for longer, unless you have no worries about money in the future. |
