What type of salary should I request?

I'm currently an Administrative Assistant (mainly in Facilities/Office Management - 3yrs under my belt), but I'm also an AA in the Business Development dept (to which both depts are fighting over me right now... LONG STORY).

Anyway, I'm extremely unhappy here & have two interviews lined up for Monday afternoon. One for a Senior AA position & the other for an Executive Assistant position. The EA position, the woman said they have that position open & an AA position just below the EA level available & that she wanted to meet w me to see where I would fit best based on my experience. Told her I was ready for a challenge & could definitely take on the duties of an EA.

Anyway, upon research, I was able to find the average salary these companies pay for the positions I have applied for. Both are at least 7k more than what I'm making now.

How much should I request?

THANKS!

Request the salary that the companies currently pay for the positions you've applied for. It will show that you've done your research. If you are nervous about seeming presumptuous, then go for a salary that is 1K or so lower than what you have found out that they traditionally pay.

It is important not to "low-ball" yourself here. If you request a salary that is too low, then you will be perceived as not having any self-worth. Obviously, you shouldn't request anything that is higher than what they are accostomed to paying their employees in this role either, though. You should request a salary that is equivalent to or SLIGHTLY lower than what your research tells you they offer.

Go for it. It's never wrong to ask for what you're worth. Don't go overboard though. Remember it's okay to leave room for raises.

Depends on the company but take what your making now and try to get around 6k-9k more

You take what they offer - why should you expect any more than a $7000 a yr increase? that's getting greedy and may blow up in your face and not get either position

just because you have interviews, doesn't mean you have the job - they will probably be interviewing 2-5 people for each position - you might not get offered either one, and you don't even mention salary until they make you an offer
