What to do when I'm not sure of what to do.?

I need some serious advice. I'm in an IT job and I'm looking for a new one in the NYC/NJ area (where I'm from). I really want to get out of my current company. I'm also thinking about non-IT positions because I don't know if I want to stay in the field long term. I've thought of just quitting, relocating, and seeing what's out there but I'm not sure if that's the best thing for me to do in this current job climate. Any advice? I just don't know what to do.

Dont quit your current job (though u may hate it badly) in this poor economy unless you find another job or have enough savings to allow u to wait for some time.

also switching to non-IT means that u dont have knowledge in that field, which means that the pay will be low and junior in position.

it could be that it is not that you hate IT job, as it could be that u just hate the people in the company u workk with and if so, try find any IT job in the NYC/NJ area by reading the local newspaper, and employment agencies.

T E has the best answer! Create a budget, start saving money and cut out all unnecessary costs. Start looking for IT jobs in your area and other jobs in the area where you'd like to move. Before you quit and move, make sure you have at least 3 month's living expenses in savings to cover the cost of moving, deposits, plus the lower income. BTW, if you want something outside the IT field, start looking in your own area before looking elsewhere.
