What strategies and techniques did you find the most productive when looking for work?

I'm currently looking for work, but I'm not getting any bites from employers.

FWIW I've got an engineering degree and had my last job for about 9 years before taking voluntary redundancy. I'd like to get back into the civil service or local government, but I'm beginning to think that might not be too viable given the current economic situation.

Well one thing that could be an issue is your resume? I don't know how it looks, but revamping your resume could bring attention to employers. I would just take that first step. Make your resume reflect results and experience, not just work history and job duties. Employers want to know what you can do for them.

Another tip is look at positions that you know that you are qualified for. The employers market are usually receiving up to 85 resumes per position per day and you can imagine how much they have to sift through the qualified versus the unqualified.

Network. Network. Network. Not just online, but in person. Get business cards that reflect you are looking for job and your industry and pass them out to different people who you know works in the same field as you do. In this time, you got to get creative.

Don't look at positions you think u would be good at, but what you know you have done.
