What should I wear to a job recruitment event?

Should I dress casually or more formal like for an interview, and how should I do my makeup? This is for a job at a grocery store and I really really want to get this job!

Business casual would be something like for an interview, but if it's for a job at a grocery store, a full suit shouldn't be required (assuming it's not a management position).

Wear something like dress pants and a button-up shirt or a nice blouse or a cardigan sweater set with a pair of dress shoes (no flip flops...not even ones with plastic jewels on them). Or you could wear a skirt, as long as it goes to the knee (nothing too short--you don't want to look like you're about to go out on a date). Nothing sleeveless or too "club"-ish or too form-fitting.

Business casual. Best bet!

You can wear a dress, or nice slacks with a blouse. Nothing revealing, no perfume (some people are allergic), don't smell like cigarette smoke, and wear your hair neat.

Business casual is not a professional as a suit, but no khakis, jeans, etc.
