What should I do next? Career advice.?

I have just finished my A Levels and am currently looking for employment. I don't want to go to university i want to start working straight away. I'm interested in child care and have been looking at positions in nurseries but I know various qualifications are required. How do i go about getting a job where they will train me.

I have A Levels in English Literature (predicted C) Psychology (predicted B) and Media (predicted A)

My friend's niece (in her 20s) just started working in a nursery this year.

She's wanted to do it for years. She contacted all the local nurseries and one of them took her on for a few hours a week and arranged for her to do training at the local college. Now she's working for them full time.

The only other person I know who worked in a nursery did it via a government training scheme, called 'ET' or something (Employment Training?) years ago. They arrange for her do to a 6 month unpaid placement in a council nursery, they took her on at the end of it. That scheme doesn't run now I think the only alternative would be new deal (which is a shambles) but they are changing stuff so ask at the jobcentre if they do anything (good luck!!!).
