What should I do about this job?

I'm in high school and I've been asked to babysit two little boys every saturday night. I don't go to parties or anything so I don't really care about that part. The mom is willing to pay 40$ per night and that sounds good except they have to spend the night at my house and I have to feed them. For all that, I think I should get paid at least 50$. Should I ask her to amp the price up or does that sound okay? If I do it with her price starting next week through the summer until the next school year, I would have only made 480$. I'm not sure if that sounds good or not.

I think even $50 is too low.

The average hourly rate for babysitting one kid is $9-$12 per hour. But in rural areas it can be as low as $5 per hour, and in big cities it can be as high as $15 per hour. If there are two kids involved you should add a buck or two to the hourly rate.

So... if these kids are spending the whole night at your house, it sounds like that's at least 10 hours each time? Which means that $50 would be the MINIMUM amount, and that doesn't even include food.

You should ask some of your friends who babysit what they charge, and check this site to determine what you really should be asking for.

That sounds great for $50. Don't try to boost the price or she might consider not giving you the job and choose someone else.

Well if you have to have them at you house and you have to feed them they yes i would ask for a bit more i mean its only fair to you you get paid 40 and have to feed them ..well what if you dont have any food the you have to pay for them to eat and that comes out of your 40

so in the long run i would ask for 50 and my be see what she thinks about that

That depends, is the mom someone you know, someone who likes you? Is she really strict and seems like she wouldn't bargain? Tell her its really important for you to get the extra money because you need to have enough money for (college, a new car, etc something you aspire for) and $480 dollars is definitely good, but Im only 14 and 50 dollars sounds good to me, lol. But anywho if she seems lenient and like a nice person, bumb it up to like, $45. :DDD
