My brother has been welding in a ship yard for 2 years and is trying to find a different career path. He can weld just about anything and has a lot of experience welding with a computer.

Machining has helped me as an alternate to welding. The programming of machines is almost the same as welding programming and doing both is fun!

Has he thought about going to university? With his experience he might be able to go straight onto an engineering degree course, and qualified engineers are in huge demand. They probably have a better chance than any other graduate (except medicine) of walking straight into a well-paid, serious professional career.

He should call his old school and ask to speak to the careers adviser. They will know which universities are best for doing this.

Any of those can make good money and they are all directly related to welding(in there respected field). 2 years is not really enough experience for alot of high end positions though, most companies like to see 5 years experience minimum. If you want to make more money you pretty well have to go back to school, but if he doesn't like welding maybe he should look into another field completely.
