What career am I ment to be in?
I am soon to be a senior in high school, and it feels like time is running out for me. I still am not sure what I want to do with my life. I don't know what career path to take. I do know what my interests are in..
I have always loved weddings..
So I have thought about being a planner, or owning my own dress shop.
I have a huge interest in business as well..
My father has always told me to go to college and major in business..and try to work my way up somewhere, but the problem is, I'm not really sure how to go about that.
Time is slowly slipping by, and it is killing me not knowing. I ALWAYS have everything planned out, so this is very unlike me.
ANY help or ideas would be very much appreciated.
Thank you. (:

Go to college - major in business - you can still be a wedding planner or you could still own your own dress shop....the difference is with a college education, you might actually make money at it. |

You must ask yourself if majoring in Business is your idea, or your fathers.time is not running out. there is this old song that says, (you've only just begun, to live). really nice song |

I know this is typically what parents tell you, but trust me you won't fully know what you want to do for the rest of your life until you're older and worrying about doing the right thing before you've fully grown up is just going to cause undue worry and grief. I would say go to college and get some more credentials (never hurts) working your way up from the bottom, is bad advice though, as companies don't work the same way as when your father was your age, companies come and go and hire and fire in the blink of an eye, not to mention they only want the better deal, younger workforce for cheaper pay. Owning your own business is a good way to go, but don't expect to be successful right away, a good business owner has failed many many time before they created a successful business. Only by making mistakes can we truly know what is right. Just so you know I'm 30 and still not 100% sure what I want to do with my life, and there are people 50-60 who still don't know. Anne Geddes (the lady who does all the baby pictures and paintings and stuff) she didnt start painting until she was in her 60's. So don't be so much in a hurry to get started, enjoy the bit of time you have now, you won't get it again, and you can take that to the bank. If I knew then what I knew now, I would've had alot more fun when I was younger, because now everything is work work work and just try to keep a roof over your head. The job market is fierce, and cutthroat, ESPECIALLY with the economy as it is. You don't need a degree to be in business either, btw. My dad didn't even graduate high school and he's a fairly successful business owner. You can start your dress shop on the side while you prepare something else. Multiple streams of income is the best, as a one source income is very limiting and can be a source of trouble down the line when that source dries up. Most truly successful people have multiple streams, some from stocks and bonds, other from businesses they own, investments they make etc. But we all have to start somewhere. I would say go get a degree while you can, (if your family pays for it, hell all the better!) and work on your dress shop idea on the side, keep notes and designs, so when you are ready to unveil the business all you need to do is create those dresses and slap them in a shop or put them on a website or ebay. Lots of different ways to make money, you just have to be able to think a bit outside the box and look for things that others can't see. |
