What can you do about bad job references? since im trying to get a new job!!!?
I have only had 2 jobs in my pitiful life. I worked at a cub foods, for about 6 months, It was going fine until near the end of may I freaked out and tried to commit suicide. I was taking prozac and buspar which taken together have a horrible effect. They create a manic effect, where one experiences psychotic symptoms, manic symptoms, including those of bipolar disorder. At work I kept on going to the brink of passing out. at the time, I just thought I was weak and sick, but now after doctors told me, they said it was from the medication. Now as I try to get a new job, No one will hire me. I honestly dont know what to do. considering I am going to college at a big university and for the summer i need to get a job, if i dont i will have to live with my parents till fall. Which will be a hassle. I just need some advice here, I am confused to what I should do. Oh and when I tried to kill myself, I missed two days of work because I was dying in the hospital. My dad called my supervisor on the second day I was gone. And they still "let me go" and now I don't even know what to say on applications for this job. I dont know what to do here.

In your situation, it may be better to not list previous work experience. Since you're still a student, this is acceptable. There's really nothing you can do about bad work references. You could put that you were let go from that job, and that you were absent because you had been admitted into the hospital and obviously couldn't work for those days. Getting a job is going to be hard for all students (and adults) because there simply aren't enough jobs to go around... it's not necessarily because of a bad reference that you're getting. Try to fill out some applications and don't list that job... what was the other job that you had? |
