What are some effective ways to translate military experience to get a job when I get out?

I've been in the military for a few years, earned a college degree while I was on active duty and I am now getting out to spend more time with my family. I'm a little worried about find a good paying job (35-40K/ year) to support my kids and pay the bills while I work on my masters degree. I have tons of technical training (IT/ Telecomm/ and electronic) and managerial experience, but I don't have the slightest clue on how to present myself to potential employers without getting overly military in my job description.

I looking to position myself for a technology management role, or maybe even project management.

Any suggestions?

Are you kidding You have a lot to offer. You have a degree, plenty of experience in technology and best of all managerial experience. List your tech training gearing the description to the public sector.

Then your supervisory experience. How many people you were responsible for, accounting of man hours, training staff, completion of paperwork and meeting all deadlines on projects. If need be spend a few hundred and pay to have your resume done by a professional. My son a former Marine did just what you are planning. He now is earning 90k in the private sector.

I agree with the other answer; you have great experience. You just need to know how to express it.

Please know that you do not have to be on unemployment to take advantage of the Department of Labor's One Stop Career Centers. At the One Stop Career Center they have special services just for veterans, including helping you write your resume. Please see link below. And look, they have a special page called "Match Military Experience to Civilian Occupations." :)
