What am I qualified to do?

I'm 26 and I got a 2.2 degree in English Literature. I went for an entry level job in basic administration the other day, which I didn't get, but the feed back they gave me was positive; they said that I came across as very bright and capable, yet they wouldn't give me the job! They gave it to somebody with a secretarial background. All my friends say that I was over qualified for that job and I shouldn't sell myself short, but I saw it as the first stepping stones into a career! If I am indeed over qualified, what do you think I AM qualified to do? I just want a frickin' 9 to 5 job FFS! (I don't want to be a teacher!) lol

I completely empathize for not knowing what you wanted to do when you graduated.

Pseudo Rule of Thumb - Many times, it's not what you are qualified to do; it's what you can convince people that you are qualified for. Keep searching out job descriptions to tie your English Lit experience to the job listings you apply for. (Before too many people give me thumbs down for the answer... if safety is involved, most states require a license which trumps this rule of thumb.)

Even without a business degree, some account rep positions are 1:1 contact that apply across the board for majors. Not sure if you should worry so much about a 'career', unless you already had some in mind, just get a job that will build your knowledge base and experience. (that will be challenging enough) You may have learned life lessons from examining the literature stories that a business major is still years away from experiencing - you will have the upper hand in some companies.

Get a job in a library? You obviously like books. It's tough in the present climate. I went back to Uni after my degree and became a nurse because you need experience and other types of qualifications. A bog standard degree, everyone has one. That's the problem, we're all over qualified and doing jobs that we are overqualified for and we have masses of debt to pay off.
