Ways to cheer up after job interview rejection?

Category: Other

I work part time, and do voluntary work once a week. I applied for a promotion, which would have got me into full time work and was unsuccessful. I have had some rejection E-Mails for other jobs this week. I know you can't win them all.

I am researching other careers, applying for a fair share of jobs etc, but I just feel under the weather.

Do you have any suggestions how I could lift my spirits a bit.

Rejection is never easy to deal with, even the so called "thick skinned" among us don't handle it too well. The trick is to keep what is bothering you off your mind. There are host of suggestions for dealing with rejection, even though a lot of them are focused on romantic rejection the idea is the same. In my experience I find that rejections in my career are the most divesting when my expectations were the highest. A few times I was promised a promotion only to have to go to someone else I was really upset. There was no remedy, and although I looked for another job it seemed my depressed mood just kept me in a downward spiral which seem to feed on its self, The harder I tried, the more I experienced failure and rejection. My turn around came when I accidentally stumbled on to one of the most influential mentors in my career. He was an exceptionally smart person who was severely crippled by polio as a teenager. His advice was too focus on my long term goal, be persistent but patient, and to lower my expectations when applying for promotions. I think a good analogy is a good gambler never bets all his chips on a single hand. He also taught me to focus on increasing my skills, enjoy what I have, and to think more of my accomplishments instead of my failures. I find reading and staying busy keeps me from negative thinking. It is ok to feel bad when you get bad news, but it is not ok to let it become your main focus. Although we all need friends, beware of those who focus on your negative situation, find a mentor and some positive friends, and continue to persevere. Good luck - the PracticaL Mentor.

I reckon you should have a big pig out

eat lots of chocolate covered strawberries for desert,

and cook yourself an italian meal.

yum, that'd make me feel better!

then i would apply for more jobs that interest me, if you apply for something that you think you wouldnt enjoy, what's the point?

give your CV to places, hope they contact you :)

Just consider it a learning experience. People get rejected all the time and the most successful people don't let it bother them. They keep moving forward. You are in control and have the ability to make your own success. Keep up the good work!
