Hello I am just curious if anyone knows how unemployment works. I started a job and went to training for the job. I was being paid $10 an hour but when I finished the first week they gave us a test and I got 76% on it. You had to pass with a 80%, so then they let me go. I have only been with the company for a week and they fired me, can I collect unemployment benefits? And if I can how much will it be? Also if I am able to and found a Part time Job 20 hours a week $10 an hour will I lose the benefits?

If that was your first job, forget it - you need to have full time wages for 4-5 calendar quarters to qualify for full unemployment benefits - at least probably 2 full calendar quarters BEFORE the quarter you were laid off in to even have a chance at minimum benefits - which might only be $40/wk -

full benefits will probably only actually pay you 50% of your working wage at best and is taxable income on top of that.

In Penna - even if you worked long enough to get benefits and were collecting and then got another job - you would have to be at that job long enough to earn at least 6 times your weekly benefit to be able to collect again if you got laid off again

You can only collect the benefits if you where layed off. Getting fired or quitting is not qualifying.

Depending on what state you live in you may have to call the unemployment office and they can get you a real answer. Go to google and type in your state and unemployment and it should guide you the rest of the way. Good luck
