Trouble at work from a disrespectful boss?

Yesterday I had the worst day of my life ever. I got some really bad news about my health from my doctor, so i really wasnt feeling to great anyway. Then I had to go into work for 4 oclock, but there was a hhuuggee traffic jam and I was about half an hour late. Considering this was the first time I have ever been late (and I've been there for a year) I felt really bad. The traffic showed no sign of moving, so I got off and run the mile or so to work.

When i got there (sweating like nothing on earth) my boss started to tell me I was getting a written warning for something I had forgotten to do the night before (switch off the lights). Fair enough I was getting a written warning, i can understand that. But what really hurt me was that he didnt even do it in private. He made me stand there infront of the customers, and the other girls who work there while he shouted and was rude to me. Then he went on to criticise other things like how I didnt do any cleaning etc, and how my cash up the night before was all wrong and it was my problem (hes the manager so surely he should be atleast helping)

The thing is, its not just me who works there (although Im the only one who is regularly on time...except for that day obviously), but he was really laying into me. I just felt so defeated and could feel I was close to tears. I was very close to picking up my bag and just walking out. I didnt want to show him how he was making me feel, so i just agreeded with everything he said so he would leave, and I could have a good vent. A few of the other girls said he was in a bad mood all day, and that he was just taking it out on me, which I dont think is very fair.

Im supposed to be working at 4 tonight and supposed to have tomorrow and friday off, but hes asked me to come in on thursday for an hour or so. I can only imagine its to recieve my written warning! Im not sure wether I should just bite my tounge and accept I was wrong, or tell him I thought it was really disrespectful to speak to me like that infront of customers and other staff.

Unfortunately, it's best just to bite your tongue - this time. I've had bosses like that too (most everyone has if they've worked for any amount of time). Some bosses (and other people) do that kind of thing. It's a psychological concept known as 'displacement'. When something goes wrong, the person vents their anger/displeasure on a person or object that can't really fight back. The stereotypical example is of a man who's had a bad day kicking his dog upon arriving home. The dog can't fight back. I remember one boss I had calling me out in front of customers and employees, saying "What did you do last night? Sit in the back and play cards?" I was like WTF? I had done my job exactly the same way I did it every other night. Everything was clean, the shelves were stocked, my till wasn't short, etc. Maybe he had gotten into an argument with his wife that morning, IDK. But he 'displaced' his anger on me. My eyes got wide with surprise at this false accusation - but I bit my tongue.
