To customer service reps; Do you find one age bracket of people snottier or ruder than most others?

I very definitely have found that people born between about 1950 and about 1960 are much ruder and snottier than any other bracket when I am trying to help them on the phone. Unfortunately, that is also my age! Is it because we can't retire yet, but feel over the hill? Why is it that these people, as a general rule, are so incredibly arrogant and bitter?

Not all, of course, but the rate is much higher than any other age group. I've been watching this for several years now and found it to be very true. Anybody else feel that way? Why do YOU think it might be?

Yes older people are usually buttholes

the elderly are awful too, just because they are old they feel they dont have to take responsibility for their behavior.

I have not found your assertion to be true.

I have found it to be true of people from the Eastern U.S. Being from the South and having been born during that time I guess I just don't understand the rudeness of people. I was always taught the golden rule of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Some ethnic groups can have a tendency to be very rude to people of other ethnic persuasions. I just don't see the reason for it. Life is too short to keep giving others a bad time. I certainly don't want to be treated that way so I guess you could say that I go out of my way to do just the opposite, and be extremely cordial with others.

I have often found that people 70 or older can be sort of crabby. But then a lot of times you find out that they have the early signs of dementia or Alzheimer's. That's a tough load for anyone to bear, so I definitely try to "cut them some slack".

Teenagers can be really rude to their parents in public, I've noticed. And have often been extremely rude to me. I didn't raise my family that way, so they just "don't go there".

Sometimes, really wealthy people can have this nose in the air, "I'm so much better than you" thing going on. Like I've always been taught, we all put our pants on one leg at a time, so they're not any better than we are, it's just all in "their perception of the world around them".

I've noticed that celebrities can be really rude to "the huddled masses". I guess once they make it there they figure they can treat anyone the way they want to. I think it usually makes for a pretty lonely existence "at the end of the day".

A lot of people act differently on the phone than they would in person.

Best of luck in finding nicer people to assist. There are some really nice ones out their, too.
