Okay so i'll be 16 in early august. i make honor roll and just finished my sophomore year in high school. i have been volunteering at a local hospital for 2 years now, i love it there and will continue to volunteer. i am now on whats called advisory council so i have lots of experience with the hospital and lots of responsibilities; however i really am going to get a paid job in the next 6 months...i really dont want to be a cashier or anything, i was wondering if anybody had any knowledge about teen jobs and how to get a good one and one that i'd enjoy doing, also i was wondering if since i love volunteering at the hospital if there are any paid jobs i could apply for that are similar? any advice or help will be greatly appreciated :) thanks!!

Why don't you go to the HR department of your hospital and talk with someone there. Explain to that person that you have been volunteering at the hospital for many years and that you were wondering if there was a job suitable in the hospital for you. Chances are, they have seen your face around the hospital, and I'm sure your volunteer coordinator will give you a good reference, maybe they could suggest something.

Other than that, try your local Parks and Recreation Departments in your city. Alot of times they have summer jobs (that could lead into regular part time jobs during the year). Also try your local YMCA, they work with high school students.

Other than that, here are some companies that hire at 16: Target, Quiznos, Subway, Staples, Chick Fi Lay

Oh, and sometimes you have to start off as a cashier to get somewhere. Although its not a pristine job, most jobs only hire at 18, so you may have to work doing something you don't want to for just a little while.

Also, its great that you volunteer at your local hospital. I did the same thing for 4 years before I could start working, and you have know idea how much it benefits you until you get older. I credit my success now, to my hospital volunteering.

Stay where you are, Health care is ONE of the few jobs you can count on, Starting so young, making the honor roll and staying on track will pay off big time in the long run.
