Taking one job and leaving another: etiquette?
So I applied to Companies A and B at roughly the same time: Company A held an informal interview with me today and offered to have me come in and start on Monday. Company B will probably contact me about an interview next week (if they contact me at all, that is). Either way, I was taken aback by the A's hasty offer and accepted, but the position with B is more prestigious, has better hours, commute, and pay; but they may want me to start soon, or immediately. There's also an added complication: I have a friend in upper management in Company A, who is sticking his neck out for me a bit.
My question is: if Company B calls and offers me the job, how do I go about quitting A? Should I tell Company A that I have other applications out on the market right now so they're not surprised, or should I just wait and see what happens and lay it on them? Is there a way to go about this that helps my friend save face and gets me the job I actually want (potentially)?

I would maybe let the company know you have been applying for more than one company so that they're not surprised. However, company B might not offer you the job. Just start work at the other company and wait and see what its like, you might enjoy it. |

If your friend is sticking his neck out to help you get this job then its gonna look really bad on him if you suddenly change from the job you have just started to then move to the other.(if you get the other one) |

I had an interview for the last month and I uncovered some good tips from the site in the box below, about interview questions. They also have some stuff about job searching and career choice. |
