Should I send a follow up email after 2 interviews that occurred 1.5 weeks ago?

I've had two interviews for a position as a customer service representative for an outlet mall office. The second interview I felt went very well. They then called me back and said they would proceed with references and a background check. I have spoken with the 3 references and all three were professional and gave me great reviews. I also don't have anything that would show up in a background check, apart from maybe a not so great credit score. All of this occured on May 26 and it's June 4th. So..what should I do, should I send an email saying that I'm just checking up and am still interested in the position?

Thanks for any help!

It is very likely they are waiting on your background check to come back. These are done by a third party and can take up to 4 weeks, but usually get done around 2 weeks. I would give a courtesy call 2 weeks from your second interview and ask what the status is. I would not email, call. It is more personal. There is no need to tell them you are still interested, they already know that. But call to check on the status of your background check and be very nice.

A phone call would be better - shows more initiative
