Should I quit my job? Opinions please?

I just started a job in retail because I could not find job in my field and I only kind of needed the money. But they have been treating me unfairly ever since I have been working there. They always insist putting me on the night shifts on the weekends simply because no one else wants to do it. At night, there are some unsavory characters that come in at night that worry me and I am always up at the front register alone. I am scared that I am going to get robbed or worse.

Now that a new girl is in, they are giving her all the day hours and letting her work only one night shift a week while I am stuck working 2-3 a week. I am also a lot more miserable right now than I was before I started this job. There is not a day where I don't cry anymore about how much of a life I don't have anymore and all of the rude people getting me down.

Please don't get me wrong. I love to work. And yes I do realize that it is retail and that I am not going to get all the hours I want all the time. And I really don't mind working on weekends as long as it's during the day. But if I am only promised that I was going to work only one night shift a week and only one weekend day a week, shouldn't I be getting that. I have gone to the manager and discussed it with him, yet I am still taking the fall for other people when they decide to take a random vacation. I have only asked that I get a week off for vacation because it was planned way in advance before I accepted this job. At this job, in the past and even in school, I have shown up on time (in fact, I leave my apartment a half an hour before I am supposed to go in and the commute is only 5-10 minutes from my fiance and I's apartment). I work my butt off every day and I do my job the way it's supposed to be done. I am just not happy and I am really leaning on quitting. What should I do?

I'm with the 1st answer; find a new job 1st. Then, quit; retail is difficult. Trust me, I know; I worked at Walmart for about 3 months, and was very unhappy. They gave me a night shift once, and then expected me to work the next morning! I don't have a car, so I had to walk and take the bus the rest of the way there. The customers were sometimes horrible, and one weekend, I just couldn't take it anymore. I ended up being rude to 2 customers, and was fired soon after. :(

Don't let the same thing happen to you. If you're not happy, find a new job.

I hope that I helped you. :)

Before you quit, start looking around for other jobs. If you find a job that you would like better go for it. You can easily keep your old job and try to apply at new ones, then you can quit your old one and won't have to go without work.

You should be lucky you have a job in this economy.

If you can find another job, then go ahead and get a job that makes you happy. Play it safe and look for another job while keeping this one.

I Agree Look For Another Job First Then Quit If You Find One.The Managers Job Is Hard As Well There's Always Someone Who Cant Come In Last Minute,Ones Who Just Dont Come In, Who Can Only Work This Day,That Many Hours, Everyone Has Been In The Same Boat As You Have.If Your Just Starting The Job of Course You Gonna Have To Work Your Way Up.Maybe You Should Also Be Friendly With Your Coworkers Try To See If You & Them Could Switch Shifts. My Mom Had A Hard Time Starting Out She Took A Year Break & Is Now Back Working At The Px After 6 Months She Got Promoted From Supervisor To Manager. See What Happens If You Be Patient.
