Should I quit my job?

I mean seriously! I really HATE it! I'm a waitress at Applebee's and the customers are really RUDE and after tonight I definitely wanted to quit! This one lady got mad at me because the cook forgot not to put a tomato on her stupid burger then claimed I put it on there on purpose because I didn't like her to begin with! It was true I didn't like her to begin with because she had been whining ever since I gave her her drink and she kept sending me back saying it had too much or too little ice but I didn't put a stupid tomato on her burger. Then another customer got mad because I spilled a drink on them but it was really his girlfriend's fault since she tripped me by accident, but my manager took it out on me! This is only the tip of the iceberg of my bad night and I want to quit really bad now and try to find another job since my fiance makes more then enough to support me and my baby girl. Should I just quit or just wait it out?

Hasty decisions based on a single string of incidents is never a wise decision. If however this has been an ongoing avalanche of bad nights that is compromising your happiness, and personal tolerance for your fellow man, perhaps the time for a change. I had friends in high school that worked for Applebees and were perpetually miserable for it.

My advice:

Hating your job tends to unfortunately be the status quo for too many people. Disregard those particular details from a night that may just be a worst case scenario. Under most circumstances I would say to drop what is more than likely a dead end job and go out in search of something you enjoy or have some passion for.

The relevance of the baby girl is distressing, solely based on the current economic climate in the US. While your fiance may be able to support you both, money can easily affect even the strongest of relationships and their is no guarantee you will find a job right away.

Bottom Line - Tolerate your job for the moment, as bad as it may be. Treat your free time as a second job where you are in fact looking actively for a new job. When you have something secure to go to, drop Applebees.

Best of luck.

I would start looking for another job before quiting this one. it could be a long time before you can get another job if you just up and quit. and like you said, it was a bad night. tomorrow might be better. keep your head up!
