Should I keep my current position or go for the promotion?

Category: Other

I can't decide. I work at Walmart and am currently a department manager of frozen and dairy. I don't mind that job but I don't care for dealing with vendors, inventory, setting freezer mods and ultimately having to put the freezer dept on the backroom program(can you say frostbite?). I have the opportunity to go for overnight support manager which sounds good and bad. First off, I think the job, while being a promotion, actually looks less stressful than my current job and it's a significant pay raise in Walmart terms. The downside would be leaving a 7-4, M-F job with some holidays off. I would instead work 6pm-5am Wed, Thur, Fri and Sat with 3 days off. But my boyfriend works days with weekends off, so we'd just about never see each other. However, I do want to start college soon, maybe in the fall, so that extra cash would be helpful and I'd be busy any way. Please help me decide, I'm kind of depressive and I don't want to regret the wrong choice.

Were I you, i would take the promotion.

for 2 main reasons you state:

Less stress

Significant pay raise.

Let boyfriend try to arrange his hours to accommodate having his time off same days as yours.

You are obviously a valued employee so you can keep your eyes open for still another promotion with better hours later. But grab this opportunity while you can.

My first instinct upon reading is NO don't take it. Let them know that with your current responsibilities ( you dont have to be specific ) that you cannot work the night shift such as that. You would love the opportunity to serve the company more and at a higher level, the hours just don't suit you at this point in your life.

Your relationship will suffer dearly -- I have seen it. And when you are miserable outside of work, you will relay that in the job.

My thoughts are no. Plus, it's wal-mart... other opportunities for promotion will surely come up!!

NOPE,

I work overnight occasionally, those weeks I eat sleep and go to work, not even enough energy to study so school is going to suffer with the promotion....

stay where you are :) it's the right one if you want to go back to school
