Should I fight for this permanent job or leave?

Category: Other

SamiSami

I started a job 7 months ago without manager and induction.

The business looked pretty much chaotic. Global company.

2 months ago a new manager has been appointed. The news was not welcome by my team. The previous manager is in hospital and was almost perfect.

I don't have a good relationship with this new manager for many reasons (he has made offensive comments during our 1-1 meetings, dirty jokes, he does not know his job, he is negative and puts me down, and sometimes treats me like the "black sheep" during team meetings, he made a .6 months work review based on negative comments of other employees nothing about work, and finally asks me whether I wanted to stay ot leave...). I constantly verbally fight with him. I don't trust him at all.

I was unemployed before for 10 months and quite frankly I need this job. I am working well but I am slow due to tiredness (1h30 travel). Plus I had a bad time with another manager who complained about me.

I spoke about this with other managers and heads, they said he is doing unappropriate things.

Suggestion was whether to be promoted or leave as nobody can complain about managers. I did it

4 yrs ago elsewhere and my contract was not renewed.

I feel demotivated and depressed. I am not enjoying my private life. I constantly think of this manager. My WkE are horrible. Plse advise. Sami

Sami,

It appears to me you are fighting an uphill battle as it were. I'm sure you are aware that those who dare go against the grain pays for the outcome. In this case, your manager as succeeded in alienating you from everyone else. Evidently he knows something you don't and that is who promoted him to his present status. I probably also knows he will not be fired as there is nothing you can prove necessarily and if you could who is going to listen, the guy who promoted him?

Although jobs are scarce, and although it may take you another 10 months to find another job, life is too short to continue to drive 11/2 hours to and from work to withstand that kind of abuse. It disrupts you entire life and that just isn't worth it. Perhaps you can better fight him on the outside rather than on the inside of your job. Perhaps you can fight him when you go draw unemployment. He reminds me of the type who will fight you getting that as well. When he does, then you can put your complaints to good use and maybe, just maybe someone will listen.

If you would rather continue working their because the job market is so bad, then I would just grin and bare it. I know that is the hard thing to do. Sometimes you can agree with what he wants and he might down the road learn to accept you as a friend or someone he can go too. Perhaps this is the way to go. Whatever your decision, good luck.
