Rejecting a job interview, kinda?

Category: Other

S.S.

I applied to old navy online about 3 weeks ago or maybe longer and i received a call today and I was iffy and the person told me i sounded hesitant. Then I said that I had an interview with a different job and that I wanted to wait to hear back from them. I told them i was interested in an interview but she said that she wanted me to be sure so I said that i would call her back next week. Did I screw my chances at getting the old navy job?

Yes you did.

You could just have easily scheduled the interview, and attended the apointment. Then you could decide whether you want the job if they offered it. Offers are a two way street. You don't have to take a job just because it's offered.

Next time, schedule the interview. You've got nothing to lose.

Just interview anyway. You can always turn down the old navy job if you get the other job, but then at least you'll have one job.

If a guy said to you, will you go to the prom with me if Ann says no, would you go with him? No, you'd be mad you are second choice. The same with jobs, you basically told them there's another job you want more, so they won't hire you cuz they think you may quit for a better job. Never let on you have another job prospect.

I would say yep you screwed yourself. You NEVER tell a potential employer that they're 2nd in line to anyone. You accept the interview & if something happens in the interim and you get the other job you politely decline the old navy gig. Sometimes one interview can turn into something even better & you should always be open to interviewing unless you already have another job. There are way too many people out there desperate for work & nobody really wants someone who could take it or leave it. It shows that you're not committed & don't really care if you work or not.
